White Wood Floors

Lighten up a space by refinishing old wood floors with white paint. This look is particularly fitting for a vacation or beach home, yet timeless enough for a year-round residence. Rooms are instantly brightened, and take on a casual, comfortable feel. Pair with traditional or country furniture for a more feminine feel, or add contrast with simpler more modern pieces.

Map Decor

Incorporating maps into your home's decor is a fun way to add color and interest. Go bold and opt for a map wallpaper or large wall sticker. Or get crafty and create your own wallcovering by hanging up multiple, overlapping maps. If you're not quite ready to commit to map-covered walls, try incorporating maps into your decor in a smaller way. A piece of furniture, a string of garland, or a throw pillow are all easy ways to adopt this trend.

Interiors with Gold

This may shock some of you, but gold is back -- especially in interiors. Every furniture store and design magazine is featuring contemporary pieces and spaces that have a touch of the shiny metallic finish. It's easiest to incorporate gold in small doses such as light fixtures, end tables, and furniture accents (for example, chair legs and dresser knobs). Stick with pieces that have clean lines and simple shapes to keep this look fresh and updated.

{Midcentury Dressing Room} "I had a little fun with that midcentury modern chair," designer Windsor Smith says of her Los Angeles home's dressing room. "I loved the frame and had it replated in matte gold, and reupholstered the seat in silvery leather." The armchair is vintage by Milo Baughman from the Windsor Smith Home Collection.
