Black + White Living Room

A black and white living room may sound a bit harsh, but done the right way, it can turn out beautifully. Below are some tips on how to achieve a black and white scheme while still maintaining a sense of coziness.

  • Opt for slightly off-whites
  • Incorporate gold or silver metals through table legs, lamps and other accessories
  • Mix patterns (throw pillows and blankets are an easy way to do this)
  • Warm up the room with an area rug
  • Add artwork and / or framed photos
  • Play with different shapes (ex. a round mirror, square frames, asymmetrical area rug)
Check out the round-up below of black and white living rooms done right!

A White Christmas (Tree)

I've noticed recently that white Christmas trees are becoming quite the trend. They are a pretty and unique alternative to a traditional tree, and are the perfect backdrop for brightly colored ornaments. Stick with specific color scheme or incorporate as many colors as possible for a cheery, eye-catching look. Or keep it a little simpler with a single color or shades of a single color for an ombre feel. A white tree like this can be used in almost any setting, but is especially nice for a home in a warm location because of its light almost beach-like feel.

Easter Table Decor

If you're hosting Easter this year, then it's time to start thinking about your table's decor. Easter eggs are the first thing that come to mind for many of us who celebrate the holiday, so try incorporating them into your table setting. An easy way to do this is to create a centerpiece that combines eggs with flowers, moss, twigs, or grass. Fill a large cylinder vase with decorated eggs and seasonal flowers for a refined and slightly more formal look. Stick with tulips, daisies, or daffodils as they are currently in season. To give your table a more casual feel, create multiple small arrangements in vases, nests, or egg cups. If you are assigning seats this year, direct guests where to go with homemade egg shell name cards. Simply write your guest's names on an egg and put one at each place setting. You'll be sure to impress!

Happy Easter all!

Don't let a boring dresser bring down your room. There are plenty of ways to add personality to a dresser that is lacking. From a simple boost to a full on makeover, these ideas are sure to dress-up any dresser.

  • Simply painting knobs a different color, or replacing them entirely can create a whole new look.
  • Choose a vibrant color and re-paint your dresser for a bold pop in any space.
  • Use a large stencil to create an eye-catching pattern or image, and fill it in with a selection of colors that work in the room. This can be done on the front of the dresser, or even the top.
  • Cover drawer fronts with wallpaper, rulers, or just about anything else that you can think of.

Wintery Pinecone Decor

Even though the holidays have passed, we still have a long winter ahead of us and it's not too late to get your home looking lovely for the season. Decorating should be a fun and easy thing to do, and with pinecones it is. When using a natural and easily found item like pinecones, it's relatively simple to customize your home's winter decor.

For an easy DIY project, try stringing pinecones on a piece of ribbon or twine. Hang your homemade creation from your mantel or a shelf for an instant wintery look. Or, cut long strips of a thicker ribbon and tie a pinecone to the end of each strip. Tie all of the strips together and hang it from a window pane or door knocker. Choose a traditional holiday color for your ribbon such as red or green, or opt for a color that coordinates with the style and colors in your home.

Feeling a bit more adventurous? Try creating a pinecone wreath that can be used as eye-catching front door decor. Add ornaments, holly, or lights for an extra reminder of the holidays.

Last but not least, arrange pincones in a vase or bowl for a super easy yet festive decoration.
